MEET THE ARTIST
Richard Jones III, known professionally as RLJ3, has long carried an unwavering passion for the world of sequential arts. His creative journey began in 1999 with the launch of his independent comic series, Night Demon, created while he continued illustrating various titles and appearing at numerous industry events. His commitment to mastering his craft led him to local illustration classes taught by established comic artists, anatomy studies, and regular Saturday drawing sessions at CCAD in Columbus, Ohio.
As the comic industry faced a downturn, Richard pivoted into graphic design. Without access to traditional college education, he instead learned directly from friends and seasoned professionals—an effort that ultimately secured him a role at a local magazine publisher. This transition opened the door to collaborations with several local and national publishing companies.
Richard’s design career expanded further when he entered the music world, working with respected bands such as Fear Factory, Static-X, and Motograter, earning multiple awards for his album artwork, apparel design, and web design. Over the years, he deepened his expertise by taking on roles across diverse industries, including serving as a photographer, set designer, graphic designer, and web designer for Magnanni, where he contributed to high-end visual campaigns and brand storytelling.
He continued strengthening his professional capabilities through work with agencies such as Herb Gillen Agency, Chepri, and DineEngine, providing graphic design, web design, app design, UI/UX, and broader marketing support for a variety of commercial clients. These experiences enriched his creative range and refined his understanding of brand-focused design across both digital and traditional mediums.
With more than two decades in the design and marketing fields, Richard remains deeply connected to his artistic roots. He is currently immersed in inking work for the local publication Prowl alongside Adam Fields, contributing to The Dead Among Us from Second Sight Studios, and recently completing the coloring for Constantine’s Bane published by Antarctic Press. Simultaneously, he is developing his own original properties, including Mora and several forthcoming projects.
Richard’s portfolio continues to evolve as he aims to establish a lasting career in comics and visual storytelling. Driven by the ongoing support of his friends and family, he moves forward with renewed passion, determined to shape an inspiring and dynamic creative future.
